Ancient Egypt: Linen & Value

This project works to a brief set by The Centre for Circular Design's TEN, which identify ten areas as a guideline to improve sustainable design practice within the fashion and textiles industry. Ancient Egypt: Linen & Value focuses on card 6 - Design that takes models from nature and history - exploring the significance of linen and flax in Ancient Egyptian societies, and how it affected the culture through life and into death. I questioned how this relates to our modern perception of ancient versus contemporary textiles, how the superiority complex of the western world has taken advantage of other cultures, and how we can use this to find value in our own textiles.
